Chapter 001

The Ghost of Akina (秋名の幽霊, Akina No Yuurei) is the first chapter of Subaru and Subaru.

Plot[]

One night, on Mt. Akina downhill, a Subaru BRZ appears going downhill at high speed. The next day, at a gas station in Shibukawa City, Kenji comes to visit his friends Itsuki and Iketani, his boss. Kenji tells them about the recent appearances of a new "Ghost of Akina" on the mountain. At first they don't believe him, until they see several anecdotes of its sighting on the internet. Iketani thinks such stories are dumb, while Kenji and Itsuki are left to wonder if it is real or not.

Meanwhile, near the Akina's top, an old Bunta Fujiwara appears next to his Subaru WRX. It is then when a Subaru BRZ appears, from which a girl gets out. She leans on the railing next to Bunta, then goes back to her car and takes out a Pocky with which she imitates Bunta's smoking. The girl compliments the old man on his car, to which Bunta says that 4WD cars are neccesary for countries were it snows, and praises Subaru brand for knowing how to make good 4WD cars. The girl mentions that her car is an FR, and that she describes herself as a daring girl, although Bunta doesn't seem to fully understand her. After this, the girl gets ready to leave, warning the old man not to come to Akina during the night, since ghosts may attack street racers in the area. To which Bunta replies that, at his age, he sleeps through the night. Before leaving, the girl introduces herself as Subaru.

In Kanagawa Prefecture, a boy arrives at Ogata Motors asking to use Ogata Cars' Toyota 86, but is politely asked to look elsewhere. Ogata and Shun Aiba appear in a park talking, Ogata mentions that this was the third time in a month that someone has come to borrow his 86, and that he had to refuse since he can't imagine that car being driven by anyone other than Kanata, saying that he doesn't even want to drive the 86 anymore; besides feeling very bad since the departure of Kanata, who pulled him out of an emotional void and debts. Aiba also mentions being bad because his beloved "Angel No. 7" left, which Ogata scolds him because he is already in a relationship with Kyoko. Still, Aiba comes to the conclusion that they have to move on and that, perhaps, Ogata should support other MFG racers like he did with Kanata.

Back at the gas station, Itsuki and Iketani continue their talk about the rumors of the Ghost of Akina sightings. Iketani offers his employee a ride up the mountain in his Fairlady Z. That night, they both arrive at Akina's top, where they mention that the street racers culture ended long ago. Half an hour later, they set off on their way back, where Iketani tests his modern sporty car and its self-stabilizing function, which makes his friend jealous. Suddenly, a demonic creature jumps out in the middle of the road.
